Red-spotted Mineral Shufflers, Schösswendklamm, Austria, 1982
A group of transient red-spotted mineral shufflers on their winter migration through the Austrian Alps (Schösswendklamm). During their way through the rough terrain, the sturdy but slow shufflers use their strong hind legs to climb or jump between rock formations in the search of minerals such as gold and niobium pentoxide. This group was accompanied by a small number of tripod jacks for protection against other species. Photographed by an autonomous survey station in October 1982.
